A Few of My Mother’s Work

Lola requested to see some of my mothers work. One of her works reminded me of some of my mother’s Chinese/Japanese paintings.

I don’t have many of her works but I am fortunate that each of my daughters have a painting.

I also have her collection of her printed Japanese  screen prints and section of two Verve art Magazines, that are completely falling apart.

The large, I think Chinese Lady fishing in the fish bowl, was in my grandparent’s den.  It passed on to my father who dismantled it and gave it to me on one of my visits. In a closet it went till Yael had it restored and framed it is quite large . The woman has 6 fingers

The pair of Japanese fingers and the still life was given to me by my Sister in law Marsha.  They were in my late brother’s home.

There are probably a few more out there in extended family homes.

I did write a small poem but I can’t as yet publish it.  Just the writing brought a flood of memories

  1. Carol, W O W! Thank you for sharing; Lola, thank you for thinking to ask! These are fabulous and captivating. Are these paintings done in oils? I’d love to know more about your mother’s art life, more about what it was like to live with that creative energy as part of your family life.

  2. Thank you. I am so glad you liked my mother’s paintings. The figures are watercolours, the still life I believe is oils. Sadly I do not have much of any childhood memories. I do remember the scent of turpentine and linseed oil. She passed when I was only 14. She did send me to art classes at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

  3. Holy artistic bounty, batman! These are stunning! The family legacy of creativity and art continues in you, fabulous creator. And what a treasure to have these works in your surroundings now, along with the memories and emotions connected with them.

Thank you so much for letting us see these! They are extraordinary!!! Xoxoxo

  4. Thank you so much! Glad that you like them. Yes, I am happy to have these with the family. My brother in law pointed out on Facebook that he has one that I forgot. I know I photographed it but so far can’t find it, probably on my older phone. Will post it when I find it.
Yes, they brought back lots of memories, some happy and some not so happy! Life’s circle!

  5. Thank you so much for commenting on my blog! I have found three more. 2 at my brother in law Tommy, my late sister Debbie’s husband, and another with my cousin Carolyn Abrams, Isidor Monosson’s granddaughter. I will make a new post with them included. All the best!
