Nothing is Coming

Just Doesn’t Come

I want to write a poem
it just doesn’t come out
The coolish feel of the pool
The row of bright lavender plants along
the border.

The hooded crow that gingerly
comes to take a drink.
the gratitude that I am even in the water
not to be taken for granted!

I feel that nothing much is “coming” these days. Like I am working on empty! Doing some warm-ups, looking at starts. Not really knowing where to go from here to there.  I know, past few months have been crazy…. my sciatica not really gone, 2 steps forward, one step back. Hoping that going to the pool will help in that direction.

My “poetry” is the same. Fake it till I make it. I do notice things but they seem to fly by and I can’t seem to catch them.

Need to get back to myself!

  1. מזדהה ומבינה. אולי זו התחושה של “בין המלחמות”, החיים הרגילים קצת מאבדים משמעות.
תמשיכי to fake it until you make it
    ובסוף תרגישי את זה ♥

  2. Carol, love your poem that just doesn’t come! It’s a capitvating way to create a poem that feels beyond your grasp. Your specificity and variety of detail are evocative and they create movement in your writing. Brava! Not to mention that, also, the theme is very (painfully) familiar!!! Watch for my version written several weeks ago and scheduled to appear in the near future!

I do love grids! Yours holds considerable invitation—might you cut the individual blocks from the grid and play with developing them further? I’m thinking perhaps you might want to impose a simple “rule,” e.g. add 5 marks with a new color, or create a small patch of pattern, or work for 4 minutes only by turning the block in all four directions to work for one minute in each direction—in other words, a simple limitation that will change each block but will stay relatively simple.

Glad you’ve got that pool to immerse yourself in!

  3. Thanks, you are always so encouraging, and it helps so much. Love your suggestions I have made two piles, one that I like and one that I dislike. That’s a step in the right direction!

  5. Hi Carol. I love your little poem about “nothing.” A poem that wouldn’t come into being.
The imagery is lovely, and the cool water…
I’m so happy for you to have the blessing of feeling enveloped by cool, clear water.
The grid is terrific. I see many mini abstract “masterpieces”. I love Dotty’s idea.
    Brachot!
