Chance Meeting

At the ledge of the pool
My arms stretched on the concrete
Soaking up the sun.

A small reddish dragonfly dropped down,
not far a few feet.
Hopped around and stopped.

Our eyes met quietly for a few seconds.
I slowly swam away letting him continue
What ever it was that he was doing!

It’s been a very hot summer. Hard to get out of the stupor. Funny how just signing up for a workshop with one of my favorite instructors, Sara Post, can change your mindset. Had to do something. On my very messy table some watercolors and gouache paints and a pen. What a good feeling!

  1. Carol! Hello! Wonderful to have you show up in my morning in poetry and paint! Your dragonfly connection and watercolor+ expressions awaken energy in me! Poem resonates with noticing. Painting on the left—verticality of color fields juxtaposed with delicate free-form horizontal penwork pulls me in, gets me wanting to grab a brush and get going; painting on the right—spareness and suggestion open doors in every direction. Hooray for Sara Post workshop!

  2. Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, with poetry it is the noticing, being aware of what’s just in front of us. I think that trying to notice more will also help in my painting and drawings. So glad that my work has inspired you to get going!
