Scribbling Scribbling

Timing

8:00PM-10PM not my time for focus
I am a morning person,
evening walk with Rutie
when the heat of the day
has let up.
shower, light supper,
wind down time.

But, for my Zoom workshop
inner clock, mindset changes
12 artists plus instructor,
all about art
contemporary drawing
scribbling
what is an abstract landscape
presence, being in vs view
weather
time
observation, natural phenomena
an X factor

Two hours sped by
was wide awake as if
it was the beginning of the day!

About the Poem

I am trying to caption the present moment. Something that when I re-read I can place myself there again. Don’t really know if that makes sense.

Hard to describe Sara’s workshops. 12 artists with Sara Post on the Zoom platform.  Next best to one on one workshops. Introductions, a little about what we will be doing in the next few weeks, abstract landscape. Some warm up scribbling exercises, a look at what each posted on the Padlet board. Some talk about the videos on the reference board.  A look at artists that do abstract landscapes. Discussion about what IS an abstract landscape. And, more.

Scribbles from the warm ups. 1 minute timed scribbling.  Anyone can find 1 minute daily to do scribbling.

My tip: have a small sketchbook and pen/pencil on a small table in the living room/TV room. Less time on the news, more time for scribbling.

  1. Your Sarah Post class sounds like just the ticket right now! Excellent! Your poem does exactly what you set out to do, i.e. capture a present moment in a way that’ll allow you to reinhabit that moment any time you read it. PLUS, it lets ME know how captivating and energizing and pattern-changing the class is for you! Well done. I enjoy seeing your scribbles, and you have me curious to follow along with your movement through this class : )

  2. Thanks so much for the feedback on the poem. Sometimes I feel the ” fake it till you make it” about this new journey. Caught it while waiting at the mall with my daughter. I hope to post after each lesson. Next lesson I’ll miss, Rosh Hashanah. But I will get the recording an do it the next day . Sara is so inspirational. Have you heard of artist Per Kirkeby? Artist from Denmark. Beautiful line work.

  3. When we have a genuine interest, we can stay focused and learn at any hour.
Maybe the real problem most of us have is that most of the time, we’re not doing what truly excites us.
The beautiful part is that you know what excites you – so keep doing it.

  4. Thank you for your kind words! Yes, I know what excites me and try to follow through. It’s what keep my head above water!
