Ode to my Bed

Oh mattress soft and wide

Oh sheets tightly tucked

Oh the soft pillows

My down blanket Oh

Oh bed never again will you be taken for granted.

We all sometimes take for granted everyday things, like sleeping in our bed. After sleeping on camp mattresses in my saferoom, how ever snug were the blankets and pillows, and developing Piriformis syndrome from getting up from the floor, I realized that my bed needed a bit of praise so: Ode to my Bed was born.

Transformation

All creative work is some kind of transformation. In visual arts we take paint, pencils, crayons, charcoal, paper, water, oils and create something that was never there, transforming our thoughts, feelings or just what we see. Transformations in visual arts can also be changing the position size and position of shapes and using color to change feelings and moods. The piece on the left was made from breaking up the piece on the right. Changing their size, shape and relationships.

The final piece was made recently in an online work shop with Sara Post. The piece on the right was made when a took a one to one workshop at The Ballinglen Art Center in Ireland with Jerry Mclaughlin.

  3. קרול, כמה נהניתי לקרוא!
נעים לקרוא מחשבות כאלה בימים לא נעימים שכאלה. אהבתי מאד את הטרנספורמציה שעשית ביצירה

    חיבוק גדול

  4. Carol, it sounds like your bed fully deserves this simple song of praise! How often are you having to sleep in the camp mattresses in your safe room? I offer prayers.

I received email notification of this post, yay!, but it landed in junk mail, grr!, so I have indicated digitally that it is not junk, hoping that step will get delivery back on track.

I appreciated your thoughts on transformation. You’ve created considerable visual interest in “Broken-Connected.” The torn edges of the collage pieces create for me a feeling of damaged crumbling stucco, complex layers symbolizing complex life circumstances in which brokenness and connection coexist.

    1. Thanks so much. For almost 3 weeks we have been sleeping on mattresses on the floor but since I developed the piriform syndrome went back to sleeping in the house. Today my granddaughter brought us a sofa that opens to a bed so we will go back to sleeping in the safe room. When open it it takes up all the space, with about 20 cm on side to stand and open the door. Heaven!
Thank you for your feedback, you got the context perfectly.

    1. No chance that I will teaching cooking on Instagram! Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment. This means so much to me!
Maybe someday you will have a blog to tell all your wonderful stories and sketches that go with them! I will be the first to comment!

    1. Thanks, hopes that we will return to back to our ordinary routine! Thanks for constant support and encouragement!

    1. Thanks Lola! We set up a sofa bed which takes up the whole space, about 20cm spare on the side of the door. Enough to stand, turn around, sit and slide into bed. Quiet night and so far this morning which has me on edge!

  7. I love the gratefulness for your bed. Simple, concise, and oh so meaning filled.
My bed is my most prized possession, and I give thanks once, if not twice a day.
I was so thankful to read, that you were gifted a sofa bed, so that you can sleep in relative comfort once again. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love both of these pieces. I love that they work as a set, but were not created as a set. In the first one, I can vaguely see a woman, and from the shape that is her body, a profile. I found my self staring at each. Enjoying the marks and colors and details. xoxo

    1. I always love hearing your personal feedback. Everyone comes to artwork from their own personal viewpoint. Although there is no intention on my part for figure or profile others have seen the profile! The second only exists as a digital photo as it donated its pieces to the first. Yes, glad that we have a good bed in our safe room. Hope all is well with you! Brachot!
